The Gas Policy Development Project 3 (GPDP 3), in collaboration with JERA and Asia Natural Gas & Energy Association (ANGEA), organized the “GPDP 3 Seminar on Global Supply, Demand, and Pricing of LNG” on July 30, 2024, at Microtel by Wyndham, UP Technohub, Quezon City, and via Zoom, equipping regulators with comprehensive knowledge on global LNG developments.

Over 60 participants participated in the hybrid event, representing member agencies of the Philippine Interagency HSSE Inspection and Monitoring Team (PIA-HSSE-IMT) including Department of Energy, DILG – Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Quarantine, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, DOLE – Occupational Safety and Health Office,  Local Government Unit of Pagbilao, Maritime Industry Authority, Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Coast Guard, as well as other partner agencies including the Philippine Economic Zone Authority. 

“We, at GPDP, want to provide opportunities to regulators to keep abreast with the latest developments and be equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the global energy industry. We do this with a view to identify actionable strategies that may enable our country to seize opportunities presented by the global energy transition,” Dr. Rizalinda de Leon, GPDP 3 Project Director, stated in her welcome remarks.  

Mr. Akihiro Ogita, Senior Supervisor of the Public Relations Group at JERA, presented an update and overview of the global energy landscape. This was followed by Mr. Neil Theobald, Senior Advisor of the ANGEA and McKinsey & Company, who covered eight pivotal topics— the geopolitics of LNG industry development, LNG supply development and future outlook, LNG & the energy transition, LNG technology, LNG shipping, LNG contracting process, LNG pricing, and LNG scheduling operations. Active participation from the attendees allowed for a more dynamic discussion and more insightful contributions.

Also in attendance were Mr. Taka Ihaya, Business Development Executive of LNG Market Development at ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., and Mr. Kenichi Kinoshita, Chief of Energy Transition Promotion Unit, Energy Transition Group, Platform Business Division at JERA Co., Inc.

This seminar is a key initiative of GPDP aimed at facilitating knowledge exchange and enhancing the capacity of LNG regulators.
