Exploring Natural Gas Use in the PH: A GPDP Research Seminar

On 27 July 2022, the GPDP conducted “Exploring Natural Gas Use in the PH: A GPDP Research Seminar” held in F1 Hotel, BGC, Taguig City. The research seminar highlighted the findings of GPDP’s two research studies.  

The first study, Market Profiling on Potential Natural Gas Users in Economic Zones gauged the extent of potential demand for natural gas in special economic zones in the CALABARZON, Clark, Subic, and Bataan areas.  The study was conducted by GPDP’s Economics Team composed of Dr. Majah-Leah Ravago, Dr. Raul Fabella, Dr. Karl Jandoc (presenter), and Mr. Renzi Frias.

The second study, Power and Non-Power Applications of Natural Gas explored the techno-economic and environmental aspects of natural gas applications in power, as well as industrial and transport sectors. The study was carried out by GPDP’s Technical Research Team composed of Engr. Bemboy Subosa, Engr. Paul Jake Nalzaro (presenter), and Ms. Thea Baltazar.

The seminar likewise featured presentations from Mr. Ernest Diaz, Supervising Economic Development Specialist of the Power, Energy, and Electrification Division, Infrastructure Staff of the National Economic and Development Authority and Atty. Rino Abad, Director of the Oil Industry Management Bureau – Natural Gas Management Division of the Department of Energy.  Their presentations provided attendees with up-to-date information on the status of the Philippine downstream natural gas industry and the emerging trends and opportunities in the sector.  

The event gathered representatives from the government, energy companies, private organizations, and the academe.
