Power and Non-Power Applications of Natural Gas

Overview

This GPDP technical report on the power and non-power applications of natural gas presents findings on four major areas: inventory of existing power applications and technical discussions on power, industrial, and transport applications of natural gas.

The power applications report reviews insights from literature on evaluating the technical and environmental performance of gas-fired power plants and summarizes process recommendations that could increase efficiency and reduce emissions. On the industrial applications, the report describes technologies for storage, regasification, and distribution activities in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chain and present recommendations from literature on coal-to-gas retrofits for industrial boilers. For the transport applications, data and estimated costs were collected in order to compute economic measures of performance of a natural gas vehicle project. The report also reviews literature on the emissions of compressed natural gas (CNG) and diesel buses and their potential environmental impacts.
